about
Named after a Blondie song and the tasty ice cream treat; Sundae Girl formed in 2016 in Halifax, NS while studying Music Arts at Nova Scotia Community College. Recalling and reinventing sounds from bands like The Cure, Prince, The Strokes, and St. Vincent, Sundae Girl own a sound that is modern and unmistakably their own. A push and pull between conventional indie rock and their dream pop/shoegaze tilts. Throughout, their driving yet atmospheric sound remains remarkably textured and decidedly optimistic.
Since their inception, Sundae Girl have showcased at Nova Scotia Music Week, Evolve Festival in New Brunswick, Into the Night festival in Halifax, Halifax Jazz Fest, Evergreen Festival, won “Silver” for ”Best New Band” in The Coast’s Best Of, and have shared the stage with artists such as T. Thomason, Said The Whale, Neon Dreams and Adam Baldwin. In 2021 the band traveled internationally to showcase in London, UK for ENKI music and Wales, UK at FOCUS Wales.
Sundae Girl’s debut EP “Just For Fun '' with producer Adam Warren (Glory Glory, wannts) is a concoction of songs showing the band’s playfulness, melodic, and retro likings. “Just For Fun” is a mantra; an approach to handling the pressures of life and finding ways to look on the brightside. Their single “Faces” is about struggling to find that brightside, complete with a killer synth hook and driving guitars. Recorded at David Scholten’s studio Spaces Between in north-end Halifax with the final touches added by Brooklyn-based engineer Justin Gerrish (Vampire Weekend, The Strokes, Weezer). Sundae Girl creates music with the intention to invigorate the senses, and invite listeners into their world with “Just For Fun'' released on December 11th, 2020.
